DSP Core Design Engineer, Principal (U.S. Potential Relocation)
QualcommJob Title
DSP Core Design Engineer, Principal (U.S. Potential Relocation)
Role Summary
Lead microarchitecture and RTL development for Qualcomm's Hexagon high-performance, energy-efficient DSP cores. The role focuses on delivering low-power, high-performance CPU designs while meeting area and timing targets and working closely with verification, software, and cross-site engineering teams.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The posting references 10+ years of CPU architecture experience and multi-year ASIC design experience (see Education Requirements for degree-to-experience equivalencies).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities for the Principal DSP Core Design Engineer.
- Own microarchitecture and RTL design for Hexagon DSP cores.
- Drive performance exploration, low-power refinements, and area/timing trade-offs.
- Design and optimize processor pipelines, out-of-order execution, load/store units, caches and memory hierarchy.
- Ensure correct multi-threaded and multi-processor behavior, cache coherence and ordering.
- Collaborate with verification, validation and integration teams to achieve silicon-quality designs.
- Work across sites, including collaboration or potential assignments with U.S.-based teams.
Requirements
Technical must-haves and preferred skills. Degree and formal education expectations are listed under Education Requirements.
- Proven experience in CPU microarchitecture and RTL implementation.
- Deep knowledge of processor pipelines, out-of-order design, load/store units, caches and memory systems.
- Track record of performance analysis, timing closure and area optimization for ASICs.
- Experience with multi-threaded/multi-processor designs and cache-coherence protocols.
- Practical experience with ASIC design, verification, validation and integration.
- Strong communication and cross-discipline collaboration skills.
- Nice-to-have: RISC-V or ARM architecture experience; exposure to RTOS, ML workloads, and low-power design techniques.
Education Requirements
Degrees: Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering or a related technical field. The posting specifies degree-to-experience equivalencies: Bachelor's +8+ years, Master's +7+ years, or PhD +6+ years of ASIC design/verification/validation/integration or related work. The role also references 10+ years of CPU architecture experience. Equivalent practical experience may substitute for formal degrees where stated.
