DRAM Layout Engineer (Intern)

Role Summary

Work with Micron's global design, layout, and verification teams to build physical layouts for DRAM products and support physical verification tasks. This is a hands-on internship focused on semiconductor layout, verification, and EDA tool usage.

Experience Level

Entry-level intern; student role intended for candidates in the final semesters of a bachelor's degree program.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include creating and verifying physical layouts and collaborating with design and build teams.

  • Design and verify analog and digital layout at all hierarchy levels.
  • Use industry EDA tools for layout and verification (e.g., Cadence, Calibre).
  • Collaborate with design engineers on floorplanning and layout implementation.
  • Follow physical verification protocols and address DRC/LVS/other verification issues.
  • Apply custom and automated layout techniques for arrays, pitch, peripheral, and analog blocks.
  • Coordinate with build engineering to align on layout methodology.
  • Document layout decisions and support integration with verification flows.

  • Must-have: Basic understanding of CMOS technology and layout design principles.
  • Must-have: Basic understanding of circuit design and electronics; effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with Linux environments and basic scripting.
  • Nice-to-have: Exposure to EDA tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Synopsys IC Compiler II, Fusion Compiler, or similar.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with programming or scripting languages (Python, Tcl, Perl, C, C++).
  • Nice-to-have: Understanding of physical verification concepts (DRC, LVS, ERC).
  • Nice-to-have: Interest in semiconductor physical design and memory technologies; experience using AI tools to assist design procedures.

Education Requirements

Student pursuing a bachelor's degree (final two semesters preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Nanotechnology, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Completed coursework or academic projects in microelectronics, semiconductor devices, VLSI, or integrated circuit design are expected.
