Distinguished Technologist, VLSI Engineering

Role Summary

Senior technical leader responsible for defining VLSI strategy, roadmaps, and standards across business units. Provides design consultation, leads cross-organization reviews, and influences product architecture and cost-efficiency decisions.

Hybrid role based in Sunnyvale, CA - expected on-site an average of 2 days per week.

Experience Level

Senior - typically 15+ years of relevant VLSI and hardware design experience.

Responsibilities

Lead VLSI technical strategy and provide high-impact technical leadership across multiple projects and business units.

• Develop technology roadmaps and long-term VLSI strategies for the organization.
• Provide expert design consultation and architecture input for prototype and product development.
• Lead and conduct VLSI design reviews across teams and architectures; influence strategic technical and cost decisions.
• Guide and mentor engineers and technical leaders; participate in selection and development of future technical leaders.
• Identify emerging VLSI technologies, assess their impact, and originate new projects and programs.
• Represent the company in industry standards discussions and contribute to defining de-facto standards.

Requirements

Core technical expertise and leadership demonstrated through hands-on work, influence, and documented innovation.

• Must-have: Deep expertise in VLSI principles, digital logic, computer architecture, and integrated circuit design.
• Must-have: Proficiency in programming/scripting, hardware description languages (HDL), and electronic design automation (EDA) or FPGA tool flows.
• Must-have: Proven analytical and problem-solving ability, with a track record of delivering complex VLSI solutions.
• Must-have: Demonstrated technical leadership and ability to influence executives, partners, and cross-functional teams.
• Nice-to-have: Record of patents, publications, and technical presentations in VLSI or hardware design.
• Nice-to-have: Experience shaping industry standards or serving in external standards groups.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a closely related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Coursework or formal training in VLSI design/concepts is noted in the posting.
