Job Title

Distinguished Member of Technical Staff (DMTS) - DRAM System Design Engineer

Role Summary

Join the DRAM Engineering team to evaluate current and next-generation memory technologies and influence product architecture and strategy. The role focuses on system-level analysis of DRAM (DDR, LPDDR, HBM, GDDR) across electrical, thermal, power, and performance domains and provides technical direction to cross-functional teams.

This position is part of Micron's Technical Leadership Program and expects technical leadership, mentorship, and high-visibility contributions to memory product strategy.

Experience Level

Senior-level technical leadership role.

Responsibilities

Deliver technical analyses and guidance that drive memory architecture and product decisions.

  • Analyze DDR4, DDR5, LPDDR and emerging memory technologies in electrical, thermal, power, and performance dimensions.
  • Identify performance gaps and evaluate tradeoffs in cost, latency, bandwidth, power, and efficiency.
  • Translate analysis into actionable design guidance for architecture and product teams.
  • Drive alignment across firmware, validation, hardware, and business partners.
  • Produce clear technical assessments and recommendations to guide memory strategy.
  • Use AI tools to build models that find design gaps and summarize data for distribution and analysis.
  • Mentor and influence engineers as part of the Technical Leadership Program.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and relevant experience.

  • Strong understanding of DDR memory architecture including timing, signaling, and system behavior.
  • Experience analyzing memory systems at both device and system levels.
  • Knowledge of high-speed I/O, electrical margins, and memory power and thermal characteristics.
  • Proven ability to evaluate tradeoffs and present data-driven recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical work and communicating technical assessments to product and business teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with DDR4/5, LPDDR5/5X/5T, or advanced DRAM technologies.
  • Background in memory controller architecture, firmware, or training algorithms.
  • Familiarity with DRAM physical layout, packaging, and topology impacts.
  • Experience in benchmarking, competitive analysis, workload analysis, or system-level simulation.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree (or equivalent practical experience) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
