Job Title
Distinguished Engineer — Data Center System Software Architect
Role Summary
Owner of end-to-end system software architecture for NVIDIA data center platforms (DGX, HGX and similar), covering firmware, kernel drivers, operating systems, and user-mode drivers.
Work with internal component leads and major cloud and enterprise customers to define requirements, align roadmaps, and drive adoption of next-generation data center products.
Experience Level
Senior — 20+ years of experience in system architecture and design.
Responsibilities
Lead technical strategy and customer-facing architecture for data center system software across firmware, kernels, and user-space.
- Serve as primary technical contact for major customers; lead technical discussions, define KPIs, and gather requirements.
- Architect system software for next-generation data center products and drive strategic collaborations with hyperscalers.
- Align NVIDIA product roadmaps with customer needs through direct engagement.
- Develop and drive adoption of new technologies, protocols, and system-level interfaces.
- Make critical technical decisions in ambiguous situations and mitigate program risk using left-shift strategies.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, experience, and leadership qualities.
- Deep expertise in scalable, high-performance server system architecture with emphasis on SW/HW interfaces.
- Extensive experience with complex system software for accelerators (GPUs, DPUs, FPGAs).
- Mastery of system firmware (SBIOS, OpenBMC), embedded systems, and Linux kernel internals.
- Proficiency in Out-of-Band and In-Band management architectures and device management protocols (e.g., MCTP, PLDM, SPDM, RDE) and system management protocols (Redfish, IPMI).
- Extensive knowledge of networking technologies and protocols, including TCP/IP, Ethernet, InfiniBand, and advanced switching/routing concepts.
- Experience collaborating with platform security teams to evaluate tradeoffs between security and usability.
- Proven track record leading complex cross-functional projects and influencing outcomes without direct authority.
- Demonstrable application of left-shift strategies to de-risk program execution.
- 20+ years of relevant experience in system architecture and design.
- Nice-to-have: knowledge of cloud/cluster deployment and management systems, participation in standards bodies (OCP, DMTF), familiarity with NVIDIA HPC programming models (CUDA, cuDNN, DOCA), and knowledge of enterprise storage and distributed processing paradigms.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.
