Role Summary

Meta Reality Labs is hiring a Staff Display Test Engineer to develop and own test programs, bring up and qualify cleanroom test equipment, and set measurement standards for wafer- and module-level microdisplay characterization through high-volume manufacturing. The role leads test strategy, equipment qualification, and cross-functional integration with design, process, packaging, and manufacturing teams and external vendors.

Experience Level

Senior — requires 8+ years of relevant experience in semiconductor test, display test engineering, or optical metrology.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include test tool bring-up, test program development, measurement standards, and vendor management.

• Lead bring-up, qualification, and lifecycle ownership of cleanroom test tools for wafer-level and module-level microdisplay characterization and production.
• Define optical and electrical test strategy; translate display quality requirements into measurable specifications and acceptance criteria.
• Architect, write, and optimize automated test programs and frameworks for high-throughput display measurement in cleanroom environments.
• Establish calibration and correlation methodology and perform measurement system analysis (accuracy, Gauge R&R, stability) to ensure repeatable, traceable results across sites and vendors.
• Drive root-cause analysis of test program issues, equipment failures, and display defects; correlate test data with process and design parameters and implement durable solutions.
• Manage vendor and manufacturing-partner relationships to meet performance specifications and drive long-term equipment improvements.
• Lead transfer of test systems from new-technology introduction through new-product introduction and high-volume manufacturing across multiple factories.
• Collaborate with display, process, packaging, and manufacturing engineering teams to integrate test solutions into production workflows and mentor test engineers.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and skills.

• 8+ years experience in semiconductor test, display test engineering, or optical metrology.
• Proven track record independently leading end-to-end test development and equipment bring-up programs.
• Experience owning cleanroom tools: bring-up, qualification, maintenance, and high-throughput testing.
• Experience writing and debugging test programs for semiconductor or display test equipment.
• Proficiency developing automated test software (Python, MATLAB, or equivalent).
• Experience managing vendor relationships and driving equipment and capability improvements.
• Ability to translate device requirements into test specifications across hardware and manufacturing teams.
• Strong problem-solving skills for root-cause analysis and data correlation.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with microdisplay / micro LED technologies and wafer-level test methodologies.
• Familiarity with optical measurement instrumentation (spectroradiometers, imaging colorimeters, probe stations).
• Scripting experience in Lua; proficiency in an additional language (e.g., Mandarin) for international collaboration.
• Experience driving test strategy across multiple global manufacturing sites and partners.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Optics/Photonics, Physics, or a related field.
