Display Module Engineer
Role Summary
Responsible for architecting, developing, and shipping flat-panel display modules for Apple Watch across device physics, materials, module integration, and system software definition. Work includes specification ownership, lab characterization, and cross-functional coordination with system, software, operations, quality, and supply partners.
Position is in the Display Technologies group and supports product development from initial concept through mass production; will support manufacturing builds and may require international travel during new product introductions.
Experience Level
Senior β requires 10+ years of relevant engineering or technical experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include leading module engineering efforts and delivering display products to production.
- Lead cross-functional teams to set goals, priorities, and drive product launches.
- Own the display module master specification from pre-concept through mass production ramp.
- Perform hands-on lab testing and characterization of display performance; troubleshoot optical, front-of-screen, and reliability issues.
- Collaborate with system, software, display/touch domain experts, operations, quality, and supply partners.
- Manage supplier relationships, evaluate materials/processes/architectures, and push technology forward with vendors.
- Travel internationally as required to support component, module, and system factory builds.
Requirements
Technical must-haves and preferred qualifications.

Must-have: 10+ years experience in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Science, Materials Science, or related technical fields with demonstrated technical experience in one or more of: optical design and characterization, human visual physics, semiconductor optoelectronics, display technologies, or optical sensor technologies.

Must-have: Experience with benchtop and industry-standard optical measurement systems for characterization, test, and validation.

Must-have: Experience using programming languages and tools for data acquisition and analysis (e.g. Python, LabVIEW, JMP, MATLAB) and/or optical simulation tools (e.g. LightTools).

Nice-to-have: Project management and multi-functional leadership skills, display-specific optics knowledge, module engineering and mass-production experience, and failure analysis linking optical device performance to module outcomes.
Education Requirements
BS in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Science, Materials Science, or a closely related technical field is required. MS or PhD is preferred.
