Director, Software Manufacturing
LumilensJob Title
Director, Software Manufacturing
Role Summary
Lead strategy, development, and execution of software systems that enable high-volume manufacturing of optical transceivers and photonic devices. The role spans test automation, calibration, data infrastructure, MES integration, and production readiness.
Work cross-functionally with photonics, ASIC, hardware, operations, and external manufacturing partners to ensure scalable, traceable, and high-yield production.
Experience Level
Senior — requires substantial experience: typically 12+ years in software engineering with a significant focus on manufacturing/test/production systems and at least 5+ years managing engineering teams.
Responsibilities
Lead software initiatives that enable NPI to high-volume manufacturing, improve yield, and scale production.
- Define and lead the manufacturing software roadmap for optical transceivers and photonic devices.
- Architect scalable test, calibration, and data infrastructure for NPI and HVM.
- Develop software solutions for wafer probe, module test, system-level validation, and final test.
- Integrate manufacturing software with MES systems and factory automation platforms.
- Implement data-driven yield analysis, failure detection, and root-cause workflows.
- Build and deploy automated test and calibration systems, including DSP tuning and optical alignment.
- Implement telemetry, logging, and traceability across the manufacturing lifecycle to meet customer requirements.
- Coordinate with foundries, OSATs, contract manufacturers, supply chain, and quality teams to standardize infrastructure.
- Lead and scale a software manufacturing and test engineering team; establish development, release, and deployment practices.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate impact.
- 12+ years in software engineering with substantial focus on manufacturing, test, or production systems.
- 5+ years of engineering leadership experience managing teams.
- Proven track record with NPI-to-HVM transitions, yield ramp, and production scaling.
- Experience working with contract manufacturers, OSATs, or global manufacturing partners.
- Strong programming skills in Python, C/C++, or similar for automation, test, and data systems.
- Experience with MES systems, data pipelines, manufacturing analytics, and production telemetry.
- Deep understanding of manufacturing KPIs: yield, throughput, cycle time, cost, and quality.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with optical transceivers (QSFP, QSFP-DD, OSFP) or high-speed modules (400G, 800G, 1.6T).
- Background in silicon photonics, advanced packaging, or optical module manufacturing.
- Experience building factory automation systems and large-scale test infrastructure.
- Familiarity with DSP-based calibration flows and optical performance tuning.
- Experience supporting hyperscalers or Tier 1 data center customers and working in fast-paced startups.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
