Director of Software Engineering — IP Tooling
Role Summary
Lead the IP Tooling organisation (approximately 70 people) across Manchester, Galway and Austin, owning developer platforms, engineering tools and workflows that enable Arm teams to configure, integrate and debug IP and SoC designs.
Work with engineering managers, technical specialists and cross-functional partners to set priorities, modernise platforms and improve developer productivity.

Responsibilities
Lead and influence engineering strategy, team development and delivery for IP tooling and developer platform workstreams.
- Lead a globally distributed organisation across Manchester, Galway and Austin (around 70 people).

- Set organisational priorities and balance delivery, innovation and long‑term capability.
- Collaborate with product, architecture and technology partners to shape roadmap and investment decisions.
- Modernise developer platforms, tooling and engineering workflows to improve productivity and developer experience.
- Promote cross-discipline collaboration across software, hardware and product teams to align on shared outcomes.
Requirements
Must-have experience and capabilities:
- Proven experience leading distributed software organisations through engineering managers.
- Experience owning developer platforms, engineering tools or software products used by technical communities.
- Strong people management, coaching and inclusive leadership skills.
- Ability to align technical and business priorities and make trade-offs between delivery and long-term investment.
- Proven collaboration with cross-functional partners (product, architecture, hardware).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in semiconductors, embedded software, SoC development, hardware/software co-design, configuration platforms or familiarity with the Arm ecosystem.
