Director of Software Architecture

Role Summary

Lead software architecture and strategy across Arm's software ecosystems to enable adoption of Arm IP and features by partners and customers. You will work within the Central Engineering Software organisation to define reference solutions, drive adoption in major open-source projects, and collaborate with OS, OEM and silicon partners.

Responsibilities

Own technical direction and delivery of software architecture work that demonstrates and enables Arm technology across multiple market segments and platforms.

  • Analyze new Arm architecture and IP features and define impacts and adoption strategies for software ecosystems.
  • Evaluate and improve deployed software solutions, including major open-source projects (for example, Linux).
  • Contribute reference implementations and upstream improvements to open-source projects.
  • Collaborate with OS vendors, OEMs and silicon partners to drive standards and enable optimization and differentiation.
  • Develop new software paradigms on Arm reference hardware and lead system profiling and performance optimization.
  • Lead validation of functionality, security and safety for Arm software solutions.
  • Engage with customers and partners to guide adoption and resolve integration issues.

Requirements

  • Deep knowledge of Arm-based computer architecture and the range of SoCs and devices using Arm IP.
  • Experience with software profiling, instrumentation, and optimization for real-world workloads (for example AI stacks, run-time compilers, multimedia).
  • Proven experience with complex multi-component computing systems and low-level OS/device driver development or integration.
  • Authoritative expertise in C or C++ with experience optimizing applications, workloads, and compilers.
  • Experience designing for test and rigorous software testing practices.
  • Track record taking complex software from concept to production and maintenance.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Android, ChromeOS or Windows internals and systems.
  • Experience with Linux distributions, cloud/edge applications and networking software.
  • Familiarity with AI software stacks, multimedia subsystems (GPUs, display processors, ISP) and SoC architectures.
