Director of Silicon Test Engineering
LumilensJob Title
Director of Silicon Test Engineering
Role Summary
Lead strategy and execution of test development for silicon photonics and semiconductor products, spanning characterization, wafer sort, and final test. Build scalable test solutions and teams to ensure validated, high-performing devices reach production.
Work closely with design, product, and operations to optimize test coverage, yield, and cost during product ramps and high-volume manufacturing.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 10+ years in semiconductor or silicon photonics test engineering and 5+ years of leadership experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver and scale production-ready test solutions and lead the test engineering organization.
- Define and execute end-to-end silicon test strategy from characterization through wafer sort and final test.
- Develop ATE test programs on platforms such as Advantest 93K and/or Teradyne.
- Design scalable test architectures to support rapid product ramps and high-volume manufacturing.
- Own test coverage, quality metrics, outgoing product reliability, and reduction of test escapes.
- Optimize test flows to reduce test time, improve coverage, and lower cost of test.
- Analyze yield data and partner with product and process engineering to drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with design and DFT teams to ensure testability and translate simulation patterns into production ATE programs.
- Oversee development of high-speed test hardware and interfaces for advanced silicon photonics devices.
- Lead new product introduction (NPI) and ensure smooth transition to high-volume manufacturing.
- Recruit, mentor, and manage a high-performing silicon test engineering team; set goals and drive accountability.
Requirements
Must-have technical background and leadership experience to run test programs from characterization to production.
- 10+ years of experience in semiconductor or silicon photonics test engineering (must-have).
- 5+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams or complex test programs (must-have).
- Deep expertise in ATE test development on Advantest 93K and/or Teradyne platforms (must-have).
- Strong background in silicon validation, production test, DFT/DFM, and high-speed digital or mixed-signal testing (must-have).
- Experience optimizing test time, coverage, yield, and cost in high-volume manufacturing (must-have).
- Proficiency in programming/scripting (C/C++, Python, Perl) and working in Linux environments (must-have).
- Proven cross-functional collaboration skills with design, product, and operations teams (must-have).
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced startup environment and driving results with limited process friction (must-have).
- Nice-to-have: experience with silicon photonics-specific test hardware, high-speed analog interfaces, advanced packaging environments, or related photonics test methodologies.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
