Director - Design Manager
Role Summary
Lead and manage hardware engineering design teams responsible for planning, design, optimization, verification, testing, and bring-up of electronic systems (digital, analog, RF, optical, FPGA, DSP), equipment, packaging and test systems. Drive cross-functional collaboration with design, verification, validation, software, systems and manufacturing teams to meet product, yield, and schedule targets.
Experience Level
Senior role. Typical requirements: candidates meet the posted degree-and-experience combinations (see Education Requirements). Preferred: extensive leadership experience β often 15+ years in hardware engineering.
Responsibilities
Manage technical delivery, lead multiple engineering teams, and influence design and manufacturing decisions for leading-edge products.
- Plan and oversee design, verification, testing, and bring-up of electronic systems and circuits.
- Lead cross-functional teams to define and implement requirements and test solutions to improve yield, test time, and quality.
- Define and enforce guidelines for simulations, analysis, and implementations focused on power, performance, and area.
- Evaluate and implement manufacturing and reliability solutions; drive automation and optimization to increase productivity.
- Advise, supervise, and mentor engineering managers and teams; review technical documentation for complex projects.
- Influence program-level decisions and manage tasks within prescribed budgetary objectives.
Requirements

- Significant hands-on hardware engineering experience across circuits, systems, or test domains.
- Proven technical leadership experience managing multiple teams or supervisors.
- Experience with circuit/logic design and validation tools and methodologies.
- Experience using schematic capture, circuit simulation tools, and hardware measurement instruments (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF tools).
- Experience influencing manufacturing, characterization, and reliability evaluations.
- Experience with technical documentation, cross-functional communication, and stakeholder influence.
- Experience working with operating budgets or project financials.
- Nice-to-have: very senior experience (e.g., 15+ years) and prior director-level roles in hardware engineering.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field with 8+ years of hardware engineering experience; OR Master's degree in those fields with 7+ years; OR PhD in those fields with 6+ years. Preferred: Master's degree and extensive experience (examples in listing indicate 15+ years). Equivalent practical experience is acceptable per the listed combinations.
