Job Title

Digital Test Engineer, Staff

Role Summary

Design and implement test solutions for new product introduction (silicon validation and characterization) and manufacturing enablement of Qualcomm System-on-Chip (SoC) products. The role sits within Product and Test Engineering and works with design, DFT, packaging, and manufacturing teams to ensure device quality and production readiness.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typical background includes several years of hardware engineering experience (see Education Requirements for firm experience-to-degree alternatives).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include development, validation, and production support of digital test solutions:

  • Create and maintain test programs and automation for silicon validation and manufacturing ATE.
  • Characterize devices, debug silicon issues, and perform post-silicon validation and characterization.
  • Develop software tools and automation using Python/Java/Linux to support test and data analysis.
  • Operate and interpret measurements from oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, and network analyzers.
  • Analyze yield, diagnostics, and test time; recommend improvements with design and DFT teams.
  • Collaborate with packaging and subsystem teams on 2.5D/3D IC testing and optical/RF subsystems.
  • Support manufacturing ramp and provide production troubleshooting and process enablement.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; additional items listed as nice-to-have.

  • Must-have: Proficiency with Python and Linux; familiarity with Java.
  • Must-have: Experience using laboratory and test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, and network analyzers.
  • Must-have: Knowledge of signal integrity and transmission line theory.
  • Must-have: Several years of hardware engineering or related experience (see Education Requirements for required minimums tied to degree level).
  • Nice-to-have: Experience developing ATE tests on Advantest 93K or Teradyne UFlex/IFlex.
  • Nice-to-have: FPGA programming and embedded software experience for optical subsystem prototyping.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with active and passive photonic devices and optical communication metrics (OSNR, receiver sensitivity, optical modulation index, optical filtering).
  • Nice-to-have: Industrial experience supporting high-volume semiconductor or EIC/PIC production; strong analytical and organizational skills.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Optics/Photonics, or a related technical field. Alternatives and experience equivalence specified by the employer: Bachelor's degree plus 4+ years of hardware-engineering or related experience; OR Master’s degree plus 3+ years; OR PhD plus 2+ years. Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Optics is preferred. Equivalent practical experience may be considered per the employer's stated alternatives.
