Role Summary

Perform physical design and related semiconductor engineering tasks for NXP products, focusing on RTL-to-GDSII implementation, timing closure, verification, and production conformance. Work within a digital/physical design engineering team to deliver tapeout-quality designs for electronic communications applications.

Experience Level

Mid-level. No specific years of experience specified in the posting.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop, and test semiconductor devices and chip layouts per product requirements.
  • Implement engineering assignments: chip layout, circuit checking, and specification documentation.
  • Modify and evaluate devices and integrated circuitry; perform redesigns to address yield or functionality issues.
  • Contribute to testing methods, device specifications, and failure analysis.
  • Review product requirements and logic diagrams to define device behavior and constraints.
  • Use and configure CAD tools to execute design tasks and test procedures.
  • Coordinate with customers and cross-functional teams on design status, processing, testing, and technical issues.
  • Monitor production to ensure devices conform to design specifications.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and tool experience:

  • CAD algorithms and tooling experience.
  • VLSI circuit design and CMOS circuit knowledge.
  • Experience with RTL-to-GDSII flow: synthesis, timing closure, place-and-route (PnR), and clock tree synthesis (CTS).
  • Proficiency in Verilog and tool scripting (TCL).
  • Static Timing Analysis (STA) experience.
  • Familiarity with Synopsys VCS for simulation.
  • Hands-on experience with physical design and verification tools such as Cadence Innovus & Tempus, Synopsys Fusion Compiler, PrimeTime, RedHawk, and Siemens Calibre.

Education Requirements

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (including VLSI or Physics), foreign equivalent. The role expects completion of graduate-level coursework, a research project, internship, or thesis covering topics such as CAD algorithms, VLSI/CMOS circuits, RTL-to-GDSII flows, static timing analysis, Verilog, and related EDA tool usage.
