RTL Design Jobs, Level - Mid-Career

Job Title

Digital Designer

Role Summary

Design RTL and digital subsystems for ultra-low-power microcontrollers. Work with analog, mixed-signal, and firmware teams to optimize power, performance, and area across the SoC.

This role focuses on practical implementation: writing Verilog, creating verification testbenches, supporting synthesis and timing closure, and participating in silicon bring-up and validation.

Experience Level

Mid-level. 5+ years of digital RTL design experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include implementing and verifying digital blocks for low-power microcontrollers and supporting the tapeout and silicon validation process.

  • Design and implement digital logic and RTL for microcontroller subsystems using Verilog.
  • Develop RTL for peripherals and bus interfaces (AHB/APB/AXI) and low-power digital blocks.
  • Write and maintain simulation testbenches and coverage metrics for verification.
  • Analyze timing reports, set up synthesis constraints, and optimize for power, performance, and area.
  • Support silicon bring-up and debug using logic analyzers, JTAG, and firmware tools.
  • Document specifications, design reviews, and verification plans; maintain reusable IP and design flows.
  • Contribute to CI pipelines for RTL and test code, and support design closure, tapeout, and post-silicon validation.

Requirements

Must-have skills and technologies for successful performance in the role. Bonus items are listed after must-haves.

  • Solid experience with Verilog RTL design (experience level: 5+ years preferred).
  • Strong understanding of digital design fundamentals: FSMs, pipelining, CDC, and timing closure.
  • Experience with SoC subsystems: timers, UART, I2C/SPI, GPIO, DMA.
  • Familiarity with low-power design techniques and microcontroller architectures.
  • Proficient with EDA tools: simulators (ModelSim, VCS), synthesis (Design Compiler), STA, linting.
  • Proficiency in Python for scripting, test automation, or tooling; version control with Git.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and experience collaborating across disciplines.

Nice-to-have:

  • UVM or formal verification experience.
  • Experience with RISC-V architectures.
  • Experience with equivalence checking tools.

Education Requirements

Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is expected; equivalent practical experience is acceptable.
