Job Title

Digital Design Verification Internship (16-month Co-op)

Role Summary

Work as a verification intern within the IP group in Mississauga to verify mixed-signal and digital IP (Backplane Ethernet, PCIe Gen4/5/6, USB3/4, MPHYv5/6 SERDES). The role focuses on implementing verification testplans, writing SystemVerilog testbenches and assertions, debugging simulations, and collaborating with design and verification engineers across global teams.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for undergraduate engineering students (co-op). Suitable for students with limited professional experience who are enrolled in an engineering degree program.

Responsibilities

Primary verification tasks and collaboration expectations:

  • Define and track verification testplans to ensure design functionality coverage.
  • Design and implement constrained-random SystemVerilog testbenches; use verification methodologies such as UVM.
  • Write SystemVerilog assertions and debug RTL and gate-level simulation failures.
  • Perform functional and code coverage analysis and close coverage gaps.
  • Collaborate with digital and mixed-signal design engineers and remote teams to integrate verification results.
  • Investigate and apply AI-assisted techniques to improve verification and ASIC design workflows.

Requirements

Essential skills and attributes for the role.

  • Must-have: Strong understanding of digital logic fundamentals.
  • Must-have: Familiarity with Verilog and SystemVerilog.
  • Must-have: Scripting experience (Perl, Unix shell, or Python).
  • Must-have: Experience with object-oriented programming (C++, Java, or Python).
  • Must-have: Independent, ownership mindset and willingness to learn.
  • Nice-to-have: Prior exposure to UVM and constrained-random verification methodologies.
  • Nice-to-have: Knowledge of SERDES, PCIe, USB, or similar interface protocols and mixed-signal verification.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline (undergraduate enrollment required for the 16-month co-op). No alternate degree or equivalent-experience language was specified.
