Digital Design Engineer Lead – Custom Silicon Management
Role Summary
Lead technical engagements with silicon suppliers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, implement, verify, and validate custom silicon for mobile products (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV).
Focus on audio and mixed-signal digital design, vendor integration, and delivering high-quality first-pass silicon to meet product schedules.
Experience Level
Senior - 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
Responsibilities
Work across architecture, implementation, verification, emulation, and validation phases to deliver custom silicon and ensure vendor alignment with company standards.
- Contribute to micro-architecture, implementation, and verification plans for custom silicon.
- Lead FPGA emulation and silicon bring-up activities with vendors.
- Define and improve engineering requirement specification documents.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure specifications meet system needs.
- Drive vendor methodologies to meet quality and schedule targets.
- Prioritize and trade off design choices against system-level constraints.
- Support characterization, debugging, and validation to achieve bug-free first silicon.
Requirements
Key technical qualifications and experience required for the role.
- Extensive mixed-signal and digital design engineering experience.
- Familiarity with audio and power interface standards: MIPI, SoundWire, I2S, SPMI.
- Experience designing or specifying audio amplifiers, codecs, or power converters.
- Hands-on experience with FPGA emulation, silicon bring-up, characterization, and debug.
- Proven ability to lead vendor engagements and drive vendor delivery to meet technical standards.
- Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional engineering teams.
Education Requirements
BS degree in a related field (engineering or equivalent technical degree) specified in the posting.
