Digital Design Engineer (FPGA)
Role Summary
Design and verify digital electronics and FPGA-based systems for military-grade electronics programs. Work on architecture, simulation, implementation, and validation while coordinating with systems and software engineering teams.
Experience Level
Mid-level — typically 5+ years of relevant experience; candidates with a Master’s degree and 3+ years of relevant experience also considered.
Responsibilities
Primary technical and engineering responsibilities for FPGA and circuit-card design and delivery.
- Define architecture, module interfaces, and detailed digital design approaches.
- Perform system simulation, synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, and power analysis.
- Create test and simulation plans; verify results and analyze performance on target hardware.
- Execute verification and validation activities and document design outcomes.
- Evaluate and improve process flow across high-level design through implementation.
- Provide leadership in interdisciplinary design efforts with systems and software teams.
- Reverse-engineer existing designs and update functionality to meet new requirements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security readiness, and work-style expectations.
- Willingness to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance.
- Knowledge and experience with all phases of circuit card design.
- Understanding of System-on-Chip (SoC) design and FPGAs with embedded processors.
- Ability to explain complex designs in non-technical terms.
- Experience collaborating with Systems and Software Engineering teams.
- Demonstrated ability to verify and validate designs on target hardware.
- Strong initiative, independent judgment, and ability to handle complex assignments with minimal direction.
Preferred:
- Application programming experience on embedded processors.
- Experience identifying opportunities to apply AI for process improvement or innovation.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience.
