Digital ASIC/FPGA Design Engineer I
Role Summary
Entry-level engineering role supporting development, verification, and lab testing of ASIC and FPGA designs for defense applications. The role works within a hardware engineering team and collaborates with systems, software, and mechanical engineers to translate system requirements into hardware implementations.
Work includes simulation-based verification, testbench development, debugging, documentation, and participation in engineering reviews.
Experience Level
Entry-level (Engineer I). Typically 0β3 years of relevant experience; position is suitable for recent graduates with foundational digital design knowledge.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on implementing and verifying digital designs and supporting test and integration activities.
- Support development and execution of verification plans.
- Build, maintain, and run test benches (UVM-based where applicable).
- Debug simulation failures and analyze waveforms and logs.
- Create and execute test cases; support functional coverage activities.
- Assist with translating system-level requirements into hardware design elements.
- Perform laboratory testing and support integration activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and participate in design reviews and documentation.
- Occasional business-related travel as required.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security prerequisites, and tools experience required at hire.
Must-have- Experience with FPGAs (Xilinx or Altera) and RTL design using Verilog or VHDL.
- Familiarity with simulation tools and digital design concepts (state machines, pipelining, clocks, resets).
- Ability to debug using waveforms and logs.
- Scripting experience (Python, Perl, or Shell).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance is required; U.S. citizenship required. An active DoD Secret clearance is required at day 1.
- Experience with digital ASIC design and ASIC design flow.
- Experience creating testbenches and verification components.
- Familiarity with UVM and constrained-random verification methodologies.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM field required and must be obtained by the start date.
