DFT Staff Engineer
QualcommJob Title
DFT Staff Engineer
Role Summary
Lead design-for-test (DFT) activities for ASIC/IP blocks within Qualcomm's ASICS Engineering team. Define, model, design, verify, validate, and document DFT and ASIC implementations to meet high-performance, low-power system requirements.
Experience Level
Senior - preferred 6+ years of ASIC/DFT design or verification experience. Minimum qualifications vary by degree: BS +4 years, MS +3 years, PhD +2 years.
Responsibilities
The role requires technical leadership across the ASIC design flow and coordination with cross-functional teams.
- Define and implement DFT and ASIC architectures, circuit specifications, and logic designs for complex blocks/SoCs or IC packages.
- Develop and validate system and block-level simulations and verification environments.
- Evaluate and optimize the design flow from RTL through synthesis, place-and-route, timing, power, and verification.
- Use and enable EDA tools and flows (e.g., RTL-to-GDS, analog layout tools) to deliver design and signoff.
- Produce and review detailed technical documentation for EDA/IP/ASIC projects.
- Collaborate with software/hardware architecture, product, and program teams to define implementation strategy.
- Mentor and provide guidance to team members; participate in technical decision-making that affects broader groups.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience (education items summarized separately).
- Hands-on ASIC design, DFT, or design verification experience working on complex digital and/or analog blocks.
- Experience with design verification methods and hardware verification flows.
- Familiarity with architecture and design tools and RTL-to-GDS flows; experience with analog/layout tools is a plus.
- Proficiency with scripting and programming languages used for automation and verification.
- Ability to write clear technical documentation and to communicate complex technical information to cross-functional and senior stakeholders.
- Experience leading technical workstreams and providing guidance to other engineers.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field plus 4+ years ASIC design/verification/validation/integration experience; OR Master's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field plus 3+ years; OR PhD in Science, Engineering, or related field plus 2+ years. Preferred: Master’s in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
