Job Title

DFT Design Engineer I - AWS Machine Learning Acceleration

Role Summary

Work on Design-for-Test (DFT) implementation and verification for custom silicon used in AWS ML acceleration. You will design and optimize DFT architectures, integrate DFT into block and physical design flows, and support silicon bring-up and ATE data analysis.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Engineer I). Suitable for early-career engineers, new graduates, or candidates with academic/internship experience in VLSI/DFT.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include designing, integrating, and validating DFT for complex chips and supporting silicon validation.

  • Design, implement, and verify DFT architectures.
  • Integrate DFT implementations with block designers.
  • Collaborate with physical design to set up and implement DFT insertion flows.
  • Develop high-coverage, cost-effective DFT methodologies.
  • Perform RTL coding and verification related to DFT.
  • Participate in silicon debug and develop scripts to process ATE data.
  • Communicate and work with cross-disciplinary teams (design, physical design, validation).

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items are listed separately.

  • Academic, internship, or professional experience with VLSI design or DFT (practical exposure required).
  • Familiarity with automation script development or software development for tooling/flows.
  • Experience with RTL coding and verification flows.
  • Ability to debug silicon and analyze automated test equipment (ATE) data; scripting to automate analysis.
  • Strong collaboration and communication across engineering disciplines.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with SCAN, JTAG, MBIST; broad chip design knowledge from micro-architecture through physical design; scripting/programming experience in Perl, Python, or Tcl.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's degree (or in progress) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Preferred: MS in EE, CE, or Computer Science. Internship or academic experience in VLSI/DFT is relevant and accepted as practical experience.
