DFM Engineer
Role Summary
The DFM Engineer is the primary engineering interface between hardware design teams, packaging/manufacturing teams and global suppliers to ensure transceiver designs are manufacturable and reliable.
The role focuses on design-for-manufacturing and design-for-reliability (DFM/DFR) across optical transceiver assembly processes (SMT, die attach, wire bonding, flip chip, TCB bonding, underfill, active alignment, mechanical assembly) and works with substrate, optical, chip, production and NPI teams during early development.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The role expects 10+ years of experience in transceiver assembly process development or closely related manufacturing process roles.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include hands-on DFM/DFR, process capability assessment, cross-functional coordination, and reporting.
- Lead DFM/DFR activities for various transceiver form-factors (pluggable, NPO, CPO).
- Assess capability and perform risk analysis for processes, machinery and materials.
- Engage with packaging production and NPI teams during early process development to collect data and summarize findings for timely decision-making.
- Work with substrate, optical, and chip design teams to provide manufacturability feedback during design iterations.
- Support reliability testing plans and failure analysis related to assembly and materials.
- Prepare technical reports, data reviews and communicate results to global stakeholders.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for successful execution of the role.
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in transceiver assembly process development or similar product assembly development.
- Deep practical knowledge of materials (solders, epoxies, glass, ceramics), equipment (SMT, die bonders, active aligners, TCB bonding equipment) and components (FR4, PIC, EIC, FAU, SMD).
- Experience with process-control and quality tools: FMEA, Control Plan, SPC, 8D.
- Familiarity with Cadence, SolidWorks and JMP for design and data analysis tasks.
- Strong data review, reporting and cross-functional communication skills; fluent in English for global collaboration.
Education Requirements
