Job Title

Device Driver Engineer

Role Summary

Design and implement high-performance device drivers to enable low-latency, high-bandwidth communication between host systems and EnCharge AI accelerators. Work closely with hardware, firmware, and AI software teams to integrate drivers with the platform and improve throughput for AI workloads.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The role requests approximately 3+ years of relevant device driver development experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include development, optimization, and support of kernel and driver components for PCIe-based AI accelerator hardware.

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain Linux and/or Windows PCIe device drivers.
  • Implement DMA, BAR/MMIO access, memory management, and interrupt handling.
  • Reduce driver latency and improve throughput for AI workloads through profiling and code optimization.
  • Debug PCIe protocol issues, kernel panics, crashes, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and software teams to define and maintain driver interfaces.
  • Ensure compliance with PCIe standards (Gen4/Gen5), SR-IOV, and IOMMU usage.
  • Support virtualization and containerized deployments (VFIO, SR-IOV, DPUs, Kubernetes, Docker).
  • Develop profiling, debugging, and monitoring tools for driver performance.
  • Contribute to open-source kernel modules when appropriate.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role. Nice-to-have items are indicated.

  • 3+ years of device driver development experience for Linux and/or Windows.
  • Strong experience with PCIe-based hardware: BAR regions, DMA, interrupts, and MMIO.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and kernel-mode programming (Linux kernel and/or Windows driver frameworks).
  • Experience with low-level debugging and profiling tools (gdb, perf, ftrace, dmesg, PCIe analyzers).
  • Understanding of multi-threading, synchronization, and memory management in kernel space.
  • Experience with hypervisor interactions, VFIO, and passthrough solutions.
  • Knowledge of secure boot, firmware update mechanisms, and trusted execution environments.
  • Nice-to-have: prior work with AI accelerators (GPUs, NPUs, TPUs) and familiarity with high-performance AI/ML workloads.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field specified by the employer.
