The Developer Experience Engineer will improve developer productivity, automation, and infrastructure for Etched's hardware and software teams. The role sits at the intersection of DevOps, software engineering, and high-performance computing to accelerate chip design, simulation, and AI model deployment in a cloud and on-premises environment.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include building and operating tools and infrastructure that enable fast, reliable development, testing, and deployment across compute-intensive workflows.

• Develop and maintain automation tooling for development, testing, and deployment workflows.
• Optimize and manage Slurm-based job scheduling for simulation, chip design, and AI workloads.
• Build observability solutions for pipelines and clusters using Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry.
• Manage and optimize containerized environments and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm).
• Enhance build, test, and deployment pipelines with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Buildkite, or Bazel.
• Design caching and artifact management to reduce build times and improve dependency resolution.
• Integrate and manage cloud resources (AWS, GCP) to scale compute and storage for hybrid workloads.
• Support security and compliance efforts, including secrets management and access control.
• Document and share best practices for developer tooling and workflows.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

• Strong Python skills for automation, scripting, and infrastructure development.
• Practical experience with Slurm job scheduling in HPC or hybrid environments.
• Hands-on experience with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
• Expertise with containerization and orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes, Helm.
• Proficiency managing CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Buildkite, or similar).
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code and cloud operations (Terraform/Ansible and AWS or GCP).

Nice-to-have:

• Data pipeline tooling (Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster).
• Build system experience (Bazel, CMake, or distributed build systems).
• Familiarity with secrets management tools (Vault, SOPS, AWS/GCP secret managers).
• Experience with AI/ML model training workflows and GPU-accelerated workloads or exposure to FPGA/ASIC development environments.
