Developer Experience Engineer
Role Summary
The Developer Experience Engineer will improve developer productivity, automation, and infrastructure for Etched's hardware and software teams. The role sits at the intersection of DevOps, software engineering, and high-performance computing to accelerate chip design, simulation, and AI model deployment in a cloud and on-premises environment.

Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include building and operating tools and infrastructure that enable fast, reliable development, testing, and deployment across compute-intensive workflows.
- Develop and maintain automation tooling for development, testing, and deployment workflows.
- Optimize and manage Slurm-based job scheduling for simulation, chip design, and AI workloads.
- Build observability solutions for pipelines and clusters using Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry.
- Manage and optimize containerized environments and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm).
- Enhance build, test, and deployment pipelines with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Buildkite, or Bazel.
- Design caching and artifact management to reduce build times and improve dependency resolution.
- Integrate and manage cloud resources (AWS, GCP) to scale compute and storage for hybrid workloads.
- Support security and compliance efforts, including secrets management and access control.
- Document and share best practices for developer tooling and workflows.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Strong Python skills for automation, scripting, and infrastructure development.
- Practical experience with Slurm job scheduling in HPC or hybrid environments.
- Hands-on experience with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
- Expertise with containerization and orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes, Helm.
- Proficiency managing CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Buildkite, or similar).
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code and cloud operations (Terraform/Ansible and AWS or GCP).
Nice-to-have:
- Data pipeline tooling (Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster).
- Build system experience (Bazel, CMake, or distributed build systems).
- Familiarity with secrets management tools (Vault, SOPS, AWS/GCP secret managers).
- Experience with AI/ML model training workflows and GPU-accelerated workloads or exposure to FPGA/ASIC development environments.
