Design Verification Engineer II
MicrosoftJob Title
Design Verification Engineer II
Role Summary
Join Microsoft’s Artificial Intelligence Silicon Engineering (AISiE) team as a design verification engineer responsible for verifying custom IP and SoC designs used across consumer and cloud products. The role partners with architecture and design engineers to define verification scope and deliver silicon-ready, functionally correct designs.
Experience Level
Mid-level - typically 4+ years of relevant design verification experience.
Responsibilities
The engineer will plan and execute verification activities for complex IP/SoC, build verification environments, and work with designers to close functional gaps.
- Plan verification strategies and identify verification scenarios with architecture and design teams.
- Create and enhance constrained-random verification environments using SystemVerilog and UVM.
- Optionally apply formal verification techniques using SVA and formal tools where appropriate.
- Develop verification tests using UVM or C/C++ test frameworks.
- Analyze and debug test failures with RTL designers to resolve functional issues.
- Define and implement functional coverage metrics; close coverage to meet tape-out requirements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution.
- 4+ years of hands-on design verification experience delivering complex CPU or SoC IP.
- Strong knowledge of verification principles, testbenches, stimulus generation, and UVM or C++-based test environments.
- Proven experience debugging RTL (Verilog) and using simulation and/or emulation environments.
- Solid understanding of computer architecture relevant to CPU/SoC verification.
- Scripting experience (Python or Perl) for test automation and analysis.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with formal verification (SVA and formal tools) and emulation platforms.
