Design Verification Engineer
Advanced Micro DevicesJob Title
Design Verification Engineer
Role Summary
Responsible for verification of complex PCI Express (PCIe) IP and subsystem designs across the ASIC development lifecycle, from architectural definition and RTL through verification signoff and silicon bring-up.
Work with architecture, design, and validation teams to develop verification strategies, build SystemVerilog/UVM test environments, drive coverage closure, and ensure first-pass silicon success.
Experience Level
Mid-level (experienced engineer). Specific years of experience not specified.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include planning, implementing, and executing verification on PCIe IP/subsystems and supporting silicon bring-up.
- Develop, review, and execute verification plans to meet feature and functional coverage targets.
- Design and implement scalable SystemVerilog/UVM verification environments and reusable verification components (UVCs, BFMs, monitors, scoreboards).
- Create and run constrained-random and directed test suites; manage regressions.
- Analyze functional, code, and assertion coverage and close gaps.
- Develop assertions, checkers, and other verification infrastructure.
- Debug simulation failures and regression issues; reproduce and analyze silicon-reported functional issues.
- Use industry EDA/CAD tools for simulation and debug; participate in code reviews and verification signoff.
- Collaborate with design, architecture, and validation teams and provide technical leadership through signoff.
Requirements
Core technical skills and tools expected for the role. Education is listed separately below.
- Must-have: Strong experience with SystemVerilog and UVM-based verification methodologies.
- Must-have: Experience building verification environments, testbench architectures, and reusable verification components.
- Must-have: Knowledge of RTL design concepts and Verilog HDL; experience with ASIC/SoC verification flows.
- Must-have: Scripting in Linux/UNIX (Python, Perl, Shell, Ruby or similar) and familiarity with C/C++ or other object-oriented programming.
- Must-have: Experience with simulators and debug tools such as VCS, Xcelium/NCSIM, Questa, and Verdi.
- Must-have: Knowledge of PCI Express (PCIe) architecture and protocols.
- Must-have: Understanding of processor and system architectures (x86, ARM) and on-chip interconnects/interfaces (AXI, PIPE).
- Preferred: Demonstrated ability to drive coverage closure, verification signoff, and to lead verification projects.
Education Requirements
Master's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
