Design Implementation Synthesis Engineer (Staff / Sr Staff)
QualcommJob Title
Design Implementation Synthesis Engineer (Staff / Sr Staff)
Role Summary
Member of the hardware implementation team responsible for synthesis and physical synthesis of complex ASIC designs. Focus on timing closure, performance and power optimization, and delivering high-quality netlists to downstream teams.
Experience Level
Senior role; typically requires 8+ years of relevant industry experience working on RTL-to-GDSII implementation and synthesis flows.
Responsibilities
Primary day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Develop and apply synthesis and physical-synthesis methodologies using industry tools.
- Create and refine timing constraints for synthesis and STA; optimize pipelining for performance and closure.
- Drive timing closure for multi-clock-domain designs and perform cross-domain analysis.
- Implement low-power techniques and flows, including UPF-based implementation and clock gating strategies.
- Script automation for flows and data processing using Perl, Python, and TCL.
- Coordinate with design, DFT and physical design teams to deliver netlists and validate constraints.
- Handle ECOs and support formal verification steps to maintain high quality and correctness.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Must: Deep expertise in synthesis methodologies and physical synthesis tools.
- Must: Proven experience with timing closure, STA, and multi-clock-domain optimization.
- Must: Practical experience with low-power implementation flows (UPF) and power optimization techniques such as clock gating.
- Must: Scripting proficiency in Perl, Python, and/or TCL to automate flows.
- Must: Ability to work independently and collaborate with design/DFT/PD teams for netlist delivery and constraint validation.
- Nice to have: Familiarity with MCMM synthesis and advanced synthesis optimization techniques.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or a related field with 4+ years of hardware engineering experience; OR Master's degree in the same fields with 3+ years of hardware engineering experience; OR PhD in the same fields with 2+ years of hardware engineering experience.
