Design Implementation - Synthesis Engineer, Lead
QualcommJob Title
Design Implementation - Synthesis Engineer, Lead
Role Summary
Lead synthesis and design-implementation activities for complex ASIC/SoC blocks, focusing on synthesis flows, timing and power closure, and formal equivalence checking. Work with RTL designers, verification, and physical implementation teams to deliver production-quality designs.
Experience Level
Senior level. Typical experience expectations noted in the posting: Bachelor's +3 years, Master's +2 years, PhD +1 year; the role commonly expects around 4+ years of industry experience in synthesis or related design-implementation work.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include hands-on synthesis, verification support, and cross-functional delivery.
- Perform RTL synthesis using industry tools (Synopsys Design Compiler / DCG / DC_NXT / Fusion Compiler and/or Cadence RC/Genus).
- Implement multi-voltage and power-aware synthesis flows, including UPF integration for low-power designs.
- Develop and run formal equivalence checks (Cadence LEC, Synopsys Formality) to validate netlist vs RTL.
- Create, debug, and maintain timing constraints and timing closure flows.
- Automate flows and productivity with scripting (Perl, TCL) and makefile-based builds.
- Collaborate with RTL, verification, and physical design teams to resolve integration and timing issues.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to process and tool improvements to move designs from concept to commercialization.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role.
- 4+ years industry experience in synthesis/design implementation using Synopsys or Cadence toolchains.
- Practical experience with power-aware synthesis and UPF flows for low-power designs.
- Experience with formal verification tools (Cadence LEC, Synopsys Formality).
- Proven ability to write and debug timing constraints and achieve timing closure.
- Proficiency in scripting (Perl and/or TCL) and maintaining makefile-based flows.
- Experience working across RTL, integration, and physical implementation teams; RTL/integration experience is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a track record of driving ideas from design to commercialization.
Education Requirements
Posting specifies degree-based minimums: Bachelor's in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field with 3+ years' related experience; OR Master's in those fields with 2+ years' experience; OR PhD in those fields with 1+ year of related experience. An additional note prefers a Master's in Electronics or Electrical Engineering.
