Role Summary

The RF Design Evaluation group in Limerick evaluates and characterises RF and microwave components (PLLs, VCOs, LNAs, mixers, modulators, filters and transceivers) for wireless infrastructure, radar and test equipment markets. The role supports design, applications and test development teams by developing evaluation hardware, measurement software and methodologies to validate device performance.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The role expects approximately 3 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on creating evaluation hardware and software, running measurements, and communicating results to development teams.

  • Design evaluation board hardware to interface with test instruments and the device under test.
  • Develop bench evaluation software to automate measurement sweeps and characterisation tasks.
  • Identify and specify suitable test equipment and develop new measurement methodologies.
  • Independently set up, evaluate, troubleshoot and characterise mixed-signal bench test solutions.
  • Format and analyse measurement data; compile reports and present findings and product improvement recommendations.
  • Collaborate with on-site Design, Applications and Test Development teams to meet product requirements and schedules.

Requirements

Key technical skills and practical experience required for the role.

  • Must-have: ~3 years relevant industry experience (experience expectation noted in source).
  • Must-have: Familiarity with RF test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, network analysers and power meters (training provided).
  • Must-have: Ability to use Python to script and automate bench measurements using test instruments.
  • Must-have: Practical knowledge of RF measurements: compression, phase noise, gain, spurious emissions, S-parameters and noise figure.
  • Must-have: Strong troubleshooting, rework, written communication and organisational skills.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with microwave components (PLLs, VCOs, LNAs, mixers) and automated test setups.

Education Requirements

Master's degree or primary degree (Bachelor's) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. The source specifies this qualification together with ~3 years of relevant experience.
