Design Engineering Architect
Cadence Design SystemsJob Title
Design Engineering Architect
Role Summary
Hands-on SI/PI engineering role in the HPP IP R&D group focused on ensuring high-speed IP products meet signal- and power-integrity requirements. The role combines lab measurement, channel modeling, simulation, package/board design optimization, and customer-facing technical support.
Experience Level
Senior - 15+ years of relevant experience working with high-speed SerDes, PHYs, and SI/PI engineering.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include design, verification, measurement, and customer support for package and board signal/power integrity.
- Test-chip package design SI/PI optimization and verification.
- Evaluation board design optimization for SI/PI performance.
- Provide extracted and measured channel models for chip designers.
- Develop package and PCB SI/PI design guidelines and support customer inquiries.
- Review customer package/board designs and simulation results; provide feedback to improve IP performance in customer ASICs.
- Perform link-performance simulations using S-parameter channel models and IBIS-AMI behavioral models.
- Support SI/PI debug of test chips or customer ASICs in the lab.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 15+ years experience with high-speed SerDes and PHYs.
- Strong understanding of high-speed SerDes architecture.
- Hands-on lab experience with high-speed oscilloscopes, TDRs, VNAs, spectrum analyzers.
- Proficient with 3D/2.5D extraction tools (e.g., Sigrity Clarity/PowerSI, Ansys HFSS/SIwave).
- Experience with IBIS-AMI model simulations.
- Experience correlating simulation results to lab measurements.
- Familiarity with PCB and FCBGA design rules and requirements.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for internal and customer interactions.
Education Requirements
M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a similar technical field.
We’re doing technical work that requires deep SI/PI expertise and rigorous lab-to-simulation validation.
