Job Title
Design Engineer - Timing Methodology
Role Summary
Join Broadcom's Timing Sign-Off group in Central Engineering to develop and own advanced timing sign-off methodologies and models for SOC and 3D/2.5D IC designs. The role focuses on delivering production-grade timing signoff solutions, improving yield and margins, and supporting high-volume tapeouts at advanced process nodes.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The role expects long-tenured engineering experience (see Education Requirements for degree and years guidance).
Responsibilities
The engineer will lead methodology design, analysis, and deployment across chip teams and EDA flows.
- Develop and deploy timing signoff methodologies for advanced technology nodes.
- Design and implement SOC, 3D/2.5D multi-die timing signoff solutions.
- Lead EDA flow development and integration for tools such as Primetime, Tempus and Innovus.
- Perform complex studies, statistical analysis, and modeling to validate timing signoff approaches.
- Drive automation and scripting for flow reliability and repeatability.
- Collaborate with chip teams, test/yield engineers, and EDA/tool vendors; own methodology delivery for tapeouts.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and professional capabilities.
- Proven hands-on experience in timing signoff methodology development and ownership.
- Practical experience with SOC and 3D/2.5D IC timing signoff and production tapeouts.
- Strong statistical data analysis and modeling skills applied to timing and yield.
- Deep knowledge of silicon technologies, testability, and yield engineering.
- Experience with industry-standard STA tools (Primetime, Tempus) and EDA flow integration.
- Proficiency scripting and automation: TCL, Python, Perl, Unix shell.
- Familiarity with revision control, issue/defect tracking, and CI/CD deployment practices.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and multitasking skills; able to work autonomously and under pressure.
Education Requirements
Minimums stated by the employer: typically a BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with 12+ years of industry experience, or an MS or PhD in EE/CS with 10+ years of industry experience.
