Design Engineer - Physical Design
Role Summary
Work on physical implementation of high-speed DDR PHY IP within the physical design (PD) team. Deliver PD flows, automation, and PPA optimizations for product projects targeting advanced process nodes.
The team focuses on high-performance IP and advanced process technology; this role executes project tasks, resolves design issues, and improves PD methodology.
Experience Level
Mid-level — BS with minimum 4 years' experience or MS with minimum 2 years' experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include physical implementation of DDR PHY IP, developing automation and improving PD flows, and optimizing performance, power, and area (PPA).
- Implement physical design for high-speed digital DDR PHY IP (floorplanning, clock tree synthesis, timing closure).
- Develop scripts and tools to enhance the PD design flow and automation.
- Execute product project tasks, diagnose and resolve design issues, and create flows/checks to prevent recurrence.
- Analyze and summarize PPA optimization methodologies and results; implement optimal design parameters and flows per project.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate PD solutions into product releases.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Practical experience in digital physical implementation: Floorplan, CTS, STA, physical verification, and power analysis.
- Strong background in circuits, electronics, or physics and willingness to learn advanced process-node methodologies.
- Proficient in scripting (Perl, C shell, TCL, Makefile, Python).
- Familiarity with EDA tools such as Innovus, ICC, Calibre, Tempus, PrimeTime.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with DDR PHY IP and high-frequency designs.
- Experience with advanced process nodes (example: TSMC/Samsung advanced nodes).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree (BS) with at least 4 years of relevant experience, or Master's degree (MS) with at least 2 years of relevant experience. Fields: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics, Physics, or related technical fields. No certifications specified.
