Job Title
Design Engineer II
Role Summary
The Design Engineer II designs and verifies digital logic for programmable devices and works with cross-functional teams to deliver silicon and FPGA implementations. The role focuses on RTL design, verification, synthesis, timing closure, and integration with software and system teams.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typically suited for engineers with prior hands-on ASIC/FPGA design experience (several years), able to work independently on modules and collaborate on larger block-level tasks.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities for this role typically include:
- Write and review RTL (Verilog/VHDL) for new features and designs.
- Develop and execute verification plans using simulation and formal methods.
- Perform synthesis, static timing analysis, and timing closure activities.
- Collaborate with architects, backend engineers, and software teams to integrate and validate designs.
- Debug issues found in simulation, emulation, FPGA bring-up, or silicon bring-up; drive root-cause analysis.
- Prepare design documentation, release notes, and support for tapeout/P&R flows as required.
Requirements
Essential and preferred skills commonly expected for this position.
-
Must-have: Practical experience with RTL design (Verilog or VHDL), digital verification, and familiarity with synthesis and STA flows.
-
Must-have: Experience with industry-standard EDA tools for synthesis, simulation, and timing analysis.
-
Must-have: Ability to debug hardware/firmware issues across RTL, gate-level netlists, and silicon bring-up.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with FPGA prototyping, emulation platforms, formal verification, or low-power design techniques.
-
Nice-to-have: Familiarity with scripting (Python, TCL) to automate flows and checks.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
