Job Title

Design Engineer I - Modem Design

Role Summary

Join the PHYMAC MODEM team to design and verify digital blocks for low-power wireless SoCs used in smart home and industrial IoT applications. The role focuses on RTL implementation, verification, integration, and lab bring-up of modem-related digital modules.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Design Engineer I). Typically suitable for candidates with approximately 0–3 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

The role requires hands-on digital design and verification across the development cycle and close collaboration with cross-functional teams.

  • Design, model, and verify digital blocks for low-power wireless products.
  • Develop RTL implementations and verification environments (Verilog/SystemVerilog).
  • Debug and resolve design and verification issues during development.
  • Integrate and validate digital modules within larger SoC designs and assist with bring-up.
  • Create scripts and tools to automate design, verification, and testing tasks.
  • Document design decisions and verification results; present findings to the engineering team.
  • Collaborate with system and RF teams to translate wireless requirements into digital architectures.

Requirements

Required technical skills and experience for immediate contribution.

Must-have:

  • RTL design experience using Verilog and/or SystemVerilog.
  • Experience with digital design simulation and verification methodologies and tools.
  • Solid understanding of synchronous digital design, state machines, timing, and logic optimization.
  • Basic programming skills for automation and testing (Python, MATLAB, or similar).

Nice-to-have:

  • Knowledge of DSP concepts and digital communications systems.
  • MATLAB modeling experience for DSP or wireless algorithms.
  • Experience with Questa tools, FPGA development, hardware bring-up, or lab debugging.
  • Familiarity with wireless standards (Bluetooth LE, Zigbee, Thread, Wi‑Fi) or proprietary protocols.
  • Exposure to ASIC/SoC flows: synthesis, linting, CDC analysis, or formal verification.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (as listed in the source).
