Component Engineer - Semiconductor Devices
Role Summary
Join Cisco's Component Quality and Technology team to support semiconductor components used in high-speed systems. The role leads component selection, testing, qualification, and failure analysis while working with design, manufacturing, operations, quality teams, and vendors.
Experience Level
Entry-level (requires a minimum of 2+ years of relevant industry experience).
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include technical evaluation, qualification, and failure analysis of semiconductor components:
- Conduct component selection, testing, qualification, and characterization to meet product specifications.
- Lead investigations and end-to-end failure analysis for component and system issues; define and verify corrective and preventive actions (e.g., 8D, RCCA).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on component selection, risk assessment, and design reviews; drive risk mitigation.
- Work with vendors to influence and assess technology roadmaps to support product requirements.
- Support NPI, mass production, and field return investigations and remediation.
- Plan or oversee reliability and qualification testing and evaluate results.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred technical qualifications (education listed separately below):
Must-have:
- 2+ years of experience in the semiconductor, networking, server, computer, or embedded industry.
- Hands-on experience with semiconductor components such as ASICs, FPGAs, PHYs, SerDes retimers, and CPUs.
- Familiarity with semiconductor design, fabrication, characterization, qualification, testing, quality, reliability, and failure analysis.
- Experience collaborating with hardware/software engineering, operations, and manufacturing teams.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and time-management skills.
Nice-to-have / Preferred:
- 4+ years of industry experience and demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams.
- Experience with high-speed design and hardware using x86 or ARM CPUs.
- Knowledge of reliability testing methods such as HTOL, ELFR, LU, and ESD.
- Experience investigating component failures across NPI, production, and field returns and using advanced FA techniques.
- Familiarity with control interfaces such as PCIe, MDIO, SPI, and I2C.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (as stated in Minimum Qualifications).
