Job Title

Design Engineer I

Role Summary

Develop firmware for DDR PHY IP front end using microcontrollers, implementing low‑level APIs and algorithms to support memory interface PHY design.

Work on a DDR PHY IP Front End Design team and collaborate with hardware designers, memory subsystem architects, and verification engineers to integrate and validate firmware across simulation, emulation, and silicon.

Experience Level

Entry-level — Engineer I. No explicit years-of-experience specified; intended for early-career engineers.

Responsibilities

The role focuses on firmware development, integration, and debugging across simulation, emulation, and silicon bring-up.

  • Develop bare-metal firmware for DDR PHY using microcontrollers in C and similar embedded languages.
  • Implement low-level APIs and firmware algorithms in collaboration with hardware designers and memory subsystem architects.
  • Define firmware-hardware co-verification plans with the verification team and support RTL simulation with firmware.
  • Debug firmware in waveform-driven RTL simulations, emulation platforms, and during silicon bring-up.
  • Write and use scripts (Shell/Perl/Python/TCL) to automate validation and debug tasks.
  • Contribute to a disciplined, high-performance team culture focused on quality and agility.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

  • Experience developing bare-metal firmware for high-speed SerDes or memory-interface PHY blocks.
  • Proficient in C for embedded development and familiar with embedded IDEs.
  • Comfortable debugging RTL simulations involving firmware and microcontroller subsystems.
  • Proficient with Shell/Perl/Python/TCL scripting for automation and debug.
