Design Engineer
ArmJob Title
Design Engineer
Role Summary
Memory layout designer within the Physical IP β Memory group responsible for full-custom layout of high-performance memory arrays and blocks. The role focuses on floorplanning, metal planning, and layout techniques to optimize power, performance, and area (PPA) in advanced process nodes.
Work closely with layout and circuits teams to take designs from schematic planning through final layout verification and manufacturability sign-off.
Experience Level
Entry-level β typically 2+ years of relevant layout design experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Implement full-custom layouts for high-performance arrays and memory blocks from schematic to final layout verification and review.
- Apply and interpret physical design rules for advanced manufacturing processes.
- Design and verify complex memory cells and bitcell arrays.
- Perform floorplanning, metal planning, and layout techniques to maximize PPA.
- Run and debug physical verification flows (DRC/LVS/DFM) using Calibre and related tools.
- Perform electro-migration and IR checks to ensure reliability and integrity.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Practical experience interpreting and organizing work from complex, hierarchical schematics.
- Knowledge of layout techniques to optimize power, speed, and area for datapath, bitcell arrays, wordline drivers, control blocks, and memory circuits.
- Ability to diagnose and repair LVS and DRC issues.
- Proficiency with Cadence Virtuoso layout systems.
- Familiarity with Calibre for physical verification and DFM checks.
- Organized, with strong attention to detail.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with design-for-manufacture in advanced nodes (7nm/5nm/3nm/2nm).
- Ability to evaluate design tradeoffs with circuit design leads.
- Scripting/programming experience: Tcl, Perl, shell, Skill, Scheme.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree (or equivalent practical experience). The posting specifies "Bachelor/Masters or equivalent education." No specific field of study was stated.
