Design Engineer
Role Summary
The Design Engineer provides technical ownership and operational support for EDA tools, CAD environments, materials simulation infrastructure, dashboard platforms, LSF compute clusters, and revision-control systems to enable semiconductor design productivity.
Works on-site with design and IT teams to maintain availability, automate workflows, troubleshoot complex issues, and deliver engineering dashboards and AI-enabled support tools.
Experience Level
Senior β requires 10+ years of experience in EDA tool support, CAD environment management, or a similar role in the semiconductor industry.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on maintaining and improving design infrastructure and supporting design engineers.
- Install, configure, and maintain EDA tools (e.g., Cadence, Synopsys, Ansys, Mentor Graphics).
- Develop, manage, and optimize CAD environments for high availability and performance.
- Operate and maintain LSF simulation cluster; tune resource allocation and scheduling.
- Manage revision control systems (Git, SVN) and support version-control workflows.
- Build and maintain engineering dashboards for project status, license usage, cluster utilization, and operational metrics.
- Develop automation, scripts, and data pipelines to streamline operational tasks and integrate data sources.
- Support adoption of AI-enabled tools and automation to improve EDA support and productivity.
- Troubleshoot EDA, CAD, cluster, and revision-control incidents to minimize downtime.
- Create and maintain documentation and provide training to engineering teams.
- Coordinate with IT on network, storage, and system security for design environments.
Requirements
Core technical skills and experience required; preferred skills listed separately.
Must-have:
- 10+ years supporting EDA tools and CAD environments in the semiconductor or electronics design industry.
- Hands-on experience with Linux/Unix environments and LSF cluster administration.
- Proficiency with revision control systems (Git, SVN) and version-control best practices.
- Scripting and automation experience (Python, Shell, Perl or similar) and building data pipelines.
- Experience developing or maintaining dashboards and database-driven reporting; API integration experience.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills; able to work with cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to travel up to ~10% as required.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with materials modeling and simulation infrastructure or engineering analytics platforms.
- Familiarity with AI/ML-enabled automation, agents for knowledge retrieval, or license-monitoring tools.
- Experience with IT networking and storage solutions.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
