Job Title

Design Automation Engineer (TFM/EDA)

Role Summary

Work on design-tool and compute automation for Intel Foundry Automation supporting external foundry customers' PDKs, design flows, and tapeout readiness. The role spans installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and integration of front-end and back-end EDA tools, automation scripts, and compute resources.

Experience Level

Entry-level: requires at least 1 year (BS) or 2 years (MS) of relevant experience in front-end and back-end design tools and flows.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include maintaining design environments, supporting designers to tapeout, and automating/installing PDKs and EDA tools.

  • Resolve designers' tool and methodology issues that block tapeout.
  • Provide ramp-up support: documentation, training, and onboarding for design teams.
  • Coordinate with EDA vendors to ensure required tool features and quality.
  • Partner with PDK/library experts, flow development teams, and product design teams.
  • Collaborate with engineering computing teams to provision and debug compute, storage, and batch resources.
  • Create automation (install scripts, checkers) for PDKs, EDA tools, and licenses to accelerate design processes.
  • Integrate new tools and methods into existing workflows, ensuring scalability and reliability.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, security prerequisites, and operational experience.

  • US Citizenship and ability to obtain a US Government security clearance (TS/SCI).
  • Experience with EDA tools, flows, and methodology (TFM); debugging and problem solving in EDA environments.
  • Experience in physical design and optimization, and related tool flows and methodologies.
  • Hardware description and scripting: Verilog or VHDL experience plus Tcl, Perl, or Python scripting.
  • Linux shell experience (bash, tcsh).

Preferred:

  • Active US Government clearance (minimum Secret).
  • Hands-on experience installing industry-standard front-end and back-end EDA tools.
  • Experience installing foundry PDKs and flows (e.g., Cheetah) and supporting PDK integration.
  • Proven experience debugging design automation and toolchain issues.

Education Requirements

BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with 1+ years' relevant experience, or MS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with 2+ years' relevant experience.
