Design Automation Engineer (TFM/EDA)
Role Summary
Work on design-tool and compute automation for Intel Foundry Automation supporting external foundry customers' PDKs, design flows, and tapeout readiness. The role spans installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and integration of front-end and back-end EDA tools, automation scripts, and compute resources.
Experience Level
Entry-level: requires at least 1 year (BS) or 2 years (MS) of relevant experience in front-end and back-end design tools and flows.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include maintaining design environments, supporting designers to tapeout, and automating/installing PDKs and EDA tools.
- Resolve designers' tool and methodology issues that block tapeout.
- Provide ramp-up support: documentation, training, and onboarding for design teams.
- Coordinate with EDA vendors to ensure required tool features and quality.
- Partner with PDK/library experts, flow development teams, and product design teams.
- Collaborate with engineering computing teams to provision and debug compute, storage, and batch resources.
- Create automation (install scripts, checkers) for PDKs, EDA tools, and licenses to accelerate design processes.
- Integrate new tools and methods into existing workflows, ensuring scalability and reliability.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security prerequisites, and operational experience.
- US Citizenship and ability to obtain a US Government security clearance (TS/SCI).
- Experience with EDA tools, flows, and methodology (TFM); debugging and problem solving in EDA environments.
- Experience in physical design and optimization, and related tool flows and methodologies.
- Hardware description and scripting: Verilog or VHDL experience plus Tcl, Perl, or Python scripting.
- Linux shell experience (bash, tcsh).
Preferred:
- Active US Government clearance (minimum Secret).
- Hands-on experience installing industry-standard front-end and back-end EDA tools.
- Experience installing foundry PDKs and flows (e.g., Cheetah) and supporting PDK integration.
- Proven experience debugging design automation and toolchain issues.
Education Requirements
BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with 1+ years' relevant experience, or MS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with 2+ years' relevant experience.
