Job Title
Debug SoC Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and own on-chip debug and trace infrastructure for CPU-based subsystems in wireless SoCs. Work within the wireless silicon team to define and implement debug features that meet power, performance, and area goals, and support system bring-up and product launch.
Collaborate with SoC architects, IP developers, validation engineers, and cross-functional teams to ensure subsystems expose required debug capabilities and to diagnose complex issues during development and launch phases.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Years of experience not specified in the source posting.
Responsibilities
Main technical responsibilities for the role.
- Define debug and trace requirements with SoC architects and IP teams for CPU-based subsystems.
- Architect, design, and deliver the on-chip debug and trace hub for wireless SoCs.
- Collaborate with subsystem designers to ensure required debug interfaces and hooks are implemented.
- Optimize debug features for power, performance, and area constraints.
- Guide validation and test engineers on using debug features to diagnose issues during emulation, bring-up, and validation.
- Participate in cross-functional ASIC debug efforts and support resolution of complex system issues during product bring-up.
- Document debug architecture, interfaces, and usage for internal teams.
Requirements
Core skills and experience expected for a successful candidate.
-
Must-have: Practical experience in SoC or ASIC design and RTL integration.
-
Must-have: Hands-on experience with RTL (e.g. Verilog/SystemVerilog) and subsystem-level design.
-
Must-have: Experience designing or specifying on-chip debug/trace features or similar observability infrastructure.
-
Must-have: Ability to work cross-functionally with architects, IP teams, and validation engineers; strong communication skills.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with emulation, bring-up, validation flows, or firmware/software debugging tools and protocols (e.g. JTAG, trace protocols).
Education Requirements
Minimum requirement of a Bachelor’s degree (source states a bachelor's degree is required). Field of study not specified.
