Job Title

Debug Engineer

Role Summary

As a Debug Engineer on a silicon debug and failure-analysis team, you will diagnose and isolate silicon and design failures, produce actionable root-cause findings, and recommend mitigations to improve product quality. You will work with lab tools and cross-functional engineering teams to accelerate failure analysis and support product release.

Experience Level

Senior-level. See Education Requirements for degree and years-of-experience guidance that define required experience for different academic backgrounds.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include fault isolation, use of lab equipment, and collaboration with design and process teams:

  • Perform in-depth fault isolation and root-cause analysis for silicon failures and defect modes.
  • Use and maintain advanced lab setups, probing equipment, automated test systems, and failure-isolation tools.
  • Evaluate and resolve issues in engineering and physical design related to silicon behavior.
  • Collaborate with test engineers, circuit designers, and process engineers to drive failure resolution and design mitigations.
  • Develop and improve debug methodologies, tools, and workflows for silicon isolation and analysis.
  • Document and communicate failure analysis results, mitigation strategies, and permanent remedies to stakeholders.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and work conditions:

  • Proven hands-on experience using lab tools (probing equipment, failure-isolation tools, automated test systems) for silicon debug.
  • Practical experience with silicon debug methodologies and fault isolation techniques.
  • Familiarity with circuit design principles and semiconductor fabrication/process considerations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across test, design, and process teams and to communicate technical findings clearly.
  • Track record of developing or improving debug tools and methodologies is expected.
  • Must be able to work on site and consent to/pass an extended background investigation (Position of Trust).

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience innovating advanced debug technologies and automation for failure analysis.
  • Experience mentoring or leading cross-functional debug efforts.

Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications specify academic degree or equivalent experience: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics) with ~12+ years of hands-on silicon debug/failure-analysis experience; OR Master's degree in a relevant field with ~8+ years' experience; OR PhD in a relevant field with ~6+ years' experience. The posting allows equivalent practical experience in lieu of a listed degree.
