Job Title
DDR Memory Interface System Validation Lead Engineer
Role Summary
Lead validation and characterization of DDR5 and LPDDR5 memory subsystems for next-generation FPGA devices within the Silicon and Platform Validation organization. Drive system-level validation strategies, debug complex silicon/firmware/board interactions, and establish reproducible test environments and automation to ensure reliability, performance, and interoperability.
Experience Level
Senior — minimum 8+ years of industry experience in memory subsystem validation, silicon validation, or high-speed interface validation.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include planning and executing validation campaigns, debugging issues across stack levels, and improving validation infrastructure and coverage.
- Own DDR5 and LPDDR5 memory subsystem validation across multiple FPGA programs.
- Define and build comprehensive system-level validation environments and test suites.
- Perform pre-silicon and post-silicon functional and electrical validation of memory controllers, PHYs, and interfaces.
- Develop and execute validation plans covering initialization/training, read/write validation, margining, stress testing, frequency scaling, and error-injection recovery tests.
- Perform timing characterization, compliance checks, interoperability testing, and JEDEC-based performance validation.
- Analyze signal integrity and timing behavior, including eye diagrams, jitter, and margin analysis.
- Debug silicon, firmware, board-level, and system-level issues affecting memory subsystems and PHY behavior.
- Collaborate with board design teams on stack-up, routing, SI/PI, topology, termination, and power delivery.
- Review schematics and board layouts for DDR5 and LPDDR5 implementations.
- Develop and maintain validation automation frameworks, measurement flows, and scalable methodologies.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role.
- Proven experience with DDR5 and LPDDR5 memory subsystem validation at the system and silicon levels.
- Strong experience validating memory controllers and PHYs, including pre- and post-silicon activities.
- Expertise in signal integrity and timing analysis for high-speed memory interfaces.
- Hands-on use of protocol analyzers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and traffic generators for debug and characterization.
- Familiarity with JEDEC specifications, compliance testing, and interoperability validation.
- Experience developing validation automation, test frameworks, and repeatable measurement flows.
- Proven cross-functional collaboration and root-cause analysis skills across silicon, package, board, firmware, and software teams.
- Minimum 8+ years of relevant industry experience in memory or high-speed interface validation.
- Nice-to-have: experience with board SI/PI and layout reviews, PHY architecture, scripting for test automation (e.g., Python/Tcl), and FPGA platform validation.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
