Job Title
DDR Bench Test Engineer
Role Summary
Member of the Post Silicon Engineering group responsible for developing and executing test methodologies and characterization for LP-DDR and PC-DDR subsystems and associated high-speed IP (DRAM, controller, PHY, IO, clocking, power distribution and termination networks).
The role focuses on silicon bring-up and debug, electrical compliance validation, automation of test scripts and data-processing flows, and collaboration with IC design, systems engineering, hardware applications and customer teams to resolve issues and qualify designs.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Early Career — guidance: 0–3 years (1–3+ years preferred; fresh graduates welcome).
Responsibilities
The engineer will plan, execute, and document silicon characterization and debug activities for DDR/high-speed interfaces and related subsystems.
- Define and execute characterization and test methodologies for LP/PC-DDR subsystems and high-speed IP.
- Develop and run characterization plans to optimize design parameters and validate electrical compliance.
- Perform first-silicon bring-up, debug failures, and qualify designs fabricated at external foundries.
- Develop and automate test scripts, measurement procedures, and data-processing flows to accelerate silicon evaluation.
- Analyze parametric performance across operating conditions and configurations, produce data-driven reports and recommendations.
- Assist in hardware design reviews and debug power integrity (PI) and signal integrity (SI) issues related to package and board design.
- Collaborate with IC Design, Systems Engineering, Hardware Applications, and Customer Engineering to resolve time-critical issues and RMAs.
- Document characterization results, debug findings, methodology updates, and design recommendations with technical rigor.
Requirements
Key skills and capabilities required or strongly preferred for successful performance in this role.
-
Must-have: Experience with Python or C# for test automation.
-
Must-have: Strong problem-solving and debugging skills; ability to work independently and meet project milestones.
-
Must-have: Strong verbal and written communication and documentation skills.
-
Preferred / Nice-to-have: Familiarity with high-speed test and characterization (eye diagrams, differential signaling, jitter analysis, SI).
-
Preferred / Nice-to-have: Familiarity with DDR2/3/4/5 and LPDDR2/3/4/5 protocols, IO timing and device specifications.
-
Preferred / Nice-to-have: Hands-on experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, TDR/VNA, J-BERT and test benches.
-
Preferred / Nice-to-have: Knowledge of VLSI technologies, CMOS analog/digital circuits, mixed-signal and semiconductor physics.
-
Preferred / Nice-to-have: Board design familiarity (schematic review, layout best practices) and ASIC device-level characterization experience.
-
Preferred / Nice-to-have: Experience developing test automation, scripting and data-processing flows.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field is preferred. (The posting also indicates fresh graduates are welcome.)
