DCS Senior Application Engineer (Software)

Role Summary

As a Senior Hardware Application Engineer in Microchip's Data Center Solutions (DCS) Business Unit, you will support FAEs, sales, and customers across product introduction, design, bring-up, testing, and post-production for data center hardware solutions.

Work closely with cross-functional teams and Tier 1 OEM/ODM customers to ensure integration and deployment in data center, machine-learning/AI, and storage environments.

Experience Level

Senior; minimum 7.5 years of experience in firmware, software, and system design, debug, and support.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include firmware maintenance, customer support, system bring-up, and cross-functional coordination.

• Maintain and support firmware for processor-based storage integrated circuits and reference designs.
• Collaborate with FAEs, sales, and customer engineering to define requirements and manage deliverables for product design wins.
• Provide hands-on system bring-up, board-level debugging, and transition support to production.
• Analyze customer architectures and software/firmware to provide timely post-production support.
• Lead or contribute to root-cause analysis and cross-functional debugging efforts.
• Develop and review user guides, release notes, technical training materials, and application notes.
• Drive customer requirements through project management processes.
• Travel domestically and internationally (0–25%) to support customer sites and debugging efforts.
• Work independently and with geographically distributed teams.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

• Minimum 7.5 years of experience in firmware/software/system design, debug, and support.
• Strong system, software, and firmware development and debugging skills.
• Proficiency in C and object-oriented languages.
• Experience with RTOS and embedded systems.
• Experience debugging ASIC and embedded applications.
• Familiarity with bench test equipment: protocol analyzers/exercisers, logic analyzers, and storage or networking test equipment.
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams across multiple locations; strong communication and presentation skills.
• Functional spoken and written English.

Nice-to-have:

• Familiarity with storage networking protocols (SCSI, SAS, SATA, iSCSI, PCI, PCI-Express, Ethernet).
• Experience with RISC-based embedded processors (MIPS, ARM) and mass storage firmware/software.
• Experience with high-speed debug equipment (oscilloscopes, DCAJ, BERT) and kernel/JTAG debugging tools (Windbg, Greenhills Debugger).
• Project management experience and experience supporting Tier 1 OEM/ODM product ramps and production.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field required. Master's degree in these fields preferred.
