Job Title

Customer Quality Staff Engineer

Role Summary

Senior customer-facing quality engineer responsible for managing customer quality and reliability for IC and/or optics products during New Product Introduction (NPI), die and package qualification, and ongoing product support.

Member of the Customer Quality Engineering team; leads cross-functional activities, customer communications, and qualification plans to meet customer requirements and improve supplier quality ranking.

Experience Level

Senior level. Typical experience: 3+ years professional experience with semiconductor or optics industry exposure; alternative: Master's/PhD with 2+ years as specified below.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include owning customer quality interactions, driving qualification and reliability activities, and coordinating internal resources to resolve issues.

  • Serve as the primary customer-facing quality contact; translate customer requirements into internal actions and processes.
  • Lead executive reviews and regular customer engagement in Santa Clara and as needed.
  • Assess reliability risk, execute qualification plans, and resolve quality and reliability issues.
  • Lead cross-functional problem-solving (8D) and improvement projects to improve customer metrics and turnaround time.
  • Manage RMAs, product change notices (PCNs), and customer requests through closure, keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Integrate customer requirements into the Quality Management System (QMS) and company processes.
  • Prepare and present quality health assessments and scorecards for customer reviews and internal executive communication.
  • Drive customer-related communications and continuous quality improvement programs.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and capabilities; preferred items listed where applicable.

  • Minimum 2+ years semiconductor or optics industry experience; 1+ years in a customer-facing technical quality role.
  • Demonstrated experience with reliability qualification, failure analysis, and manufacturing-related quality issues.
  • Working knowledge of semiconductor fabrication, packaging technologies, device physics, or equivalent optics process knowledge.
  • Experience with wafer process, assembly processes, manufacturing, and reliability qualification preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive complex problem resolution.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills in English; ability to communicate to customers and executives.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, with advanced PowerPoint and Excel skills.
  • Ability to prioritize under tight schedules and deliver results; travel up to 10% (domestic and international).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field plus 3+ years of related professional experience; OR Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields with 2+ years of related professional experience.
