Customer Quality Manager

Role Summary

Senior customer-facing engineering role responsible for leading quality interactions with key accounts in Japan. The role partners with engineering, manufacturing, FA/reliability, and business teams to diagnose issues, drive corrective actions, and ensure timely closure of customer quality requests.

Focus areas include failure analysis, root-cause investigations, 8D/FA reporting, customer audits, and continuous improvement of quality processes and systems.

Responsibilities

Accountable for delivering quality support and issue resolution to key customer accounts in Japan.

  • Serve as primary customer contact for pre-sales and post-sales quality inquiries and issues.
  • Lead and co-author FA and 8D reports; communicate findings and corrective actions to customers.
  • Perform hands-on investigations and implement corrective/preventive actions.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams (engineering, manufacturing, reliability, FA) to resolve issues and drive improvements.
  • Support NPI and process improvements through active participation in problem-solving sessions.
  • Manage customer audits and act as on-site customer-facing representative for MPS and subcontractors.
  • Ensure compliance with quality management systems (ISO, VDA 6.3, IATF-16949) and relevant industry standards.
  • Lead special projects requiring rapid response and direct engagement.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and skills; concise list of practical capabilities.

  • 10–15 years experience in Semiconductor IC engineering and quality roles with customer-facing responsibilities.
  • Experience in at least three areas among: Customer Quality Engineering, Quality Management Systems, PCN administration, Automotive Quality, Reliability Engineering, Failure Analysis, Product Engineering, Production Quality Control.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor manufacturing, IC test methodologies, and ATE correlation to device behavior and quality.
  • Knowledge of silicon/package failure mechanisms, reliability testing, FA processes, and reporting tools.
  • Hands-on proficiency with quality tools, statistics, and structured problem-solving techniques (e.g., 8D, root-cause analysis).
  • Proven communication, influence, and negotiation skills for managing sensitive customer situations.
  • Able to travel as required (up to ~30%).

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or related field is required; Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) is preferred. No specific certifications were listed. Equivalent practical experience was not stated as an alternative to the degree requirement.
