CryoCMOS Digital IC Design Engineer, Quantum
GlobalFoundriesJob Title
CryoCMOS Digital IC Design Engineer, Quantum
Role Summary
Senior digital IC design engineer responsible for architecture, RTL implementation, verification, physical implementation, tapeout, and silicon validation of digital and mixed-signal integrated circuits and reusable IP for advanced applications including cryogenic CMOS and quantum-control systems.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Minimum 5 years of relevant digital IC or ASIC design experience; employer guidance shows typical expectations of BS+6–7 years, MS+5–6 years, or PhD+3–4 years.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include design, verification, and silicon validation of digital ICs and IP.
- Design digital CMOS circuits, subsystems, and reusable IP for control, interfaces, timing, calibration, and signal-processing functions.
- Own development from microarchitecture and RTL through functional verification, synthesis, timing closure, physical implementation, tapeout, and silicon validation.
- Develop and execute verification strategies using simulation, assertions, coverage, and regression methodologies.
- Perform synthesis, static timing analysis, clock/reset design, power analysis, design-for-test, post-layout verification, and design signoff.
- Optimize digital architectures for power, performance, area, reliability, and operating-temperature requirements, including cryogenic conditions where applicable.
- Collaborate with PDK, device modeling, technology, analog, layout, and EDA teams to evaluate methodology, libraries, timing models, and implementation flows.
- Define silicon test and characterization requirements, analyze measured data, debug digital functionality and timing, and correlate silicon behavior with pre-silicon models.
- Lead technical design reviews, document methodology and results, mentor engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Perform activities in a safe and responsible manner and support Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements; travel up to 10%.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and hands-on experience to deliver complex digital IC projects.
- Minimum 5 years relevant digital integrated circuit or ASIC design experience.
- Proven RTL design and verification experience using Verilog, SystemVerilog, VHDL, or equivalent.
- Experience with ASIC design flows: synthesis, static timing analysis, clock/reset methodology, DFT/scan, physical implementation, timing closure, and signoff.
- Strong understanding of synchronous digital design, clock-domain and reset-domain crossing, low-power design concepts, and PVT-related timing behavior.
- Proficiency with industry-standard digital design, verification, implementation, and analysis tools and the ability to debug complex pre-silicon and silicon issues.
- Experience with cryogenic CMOS, quantum-control electronics, mixed-signal SoCs, high-speed interfaces, or silicon bring-up is preferred.
- Familiarity with formal verification, UVM, FPGA prototyping, scripting for automation (Python, Tcl, Perl), and characterization/correlation techniques is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication, planning, and mentoring skills.
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Microelectronics, or a related field. Preferred: Master's degree or PhD in those fields. Employer guidance also lists typical experience-to-degree mappings (BS + 6–7 years; MS + 5–6 years; PhD + 3–4 years) and notes exceptions may be approved by HR.
