CPU Verification Engineer (Up to Staff Level)
QualcommJob Title
CPU Verification Engineer (Up to Staff Level)
Role Summary
Verify CPU design features across micro-architecture, power intent, and system-level use cases within the ASICs Engineering team. Collaborate with CPU designers, system architects, software and SoC teams to plan and execute verification across simulation, formal methods, emulation, and silicon validation.
Experience Level
Senior (up to Staff level). Years of experience not specified.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include developing verification plans, implementing stimuli and checkers, running verification on multiple platforms, and debugging failures.
- Develop deep understanding of CPU micro-architecture and produce comprehensive verification plans.
- Use simulation and formal verification methodologies to implement and execute tests; write checkers and assertions.
- Develop stimulus and test vectors for simulation, emulation, FPGA, and silicon validation.
- Verify power intent using methodologies such as UPF and coordinate with physical design teams on power issues.
- Work with emulation teams to enable verification on emulators and FPGA platforms.
- Validate system-level use cases with system architects and software teams.
- Debug and triage failures in simulation, emulation, and silicon; support silicon bring-up and validation.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and tools.
- Proficient in C/C++ and scripting languages such as Python or Perl.
- Experience with hardware description languages: SystemVerilog and/or VHDL.
- Experience with simulation and formal verification methodologies.
- Familiarity with power-intent verification workflows (e.g., UPF).
- Experience with emulation/FPGAs and enabling verification on those platforms.
- Experience implementing embedded firmware in assembly and C; familiar with assemblers, compilers, Makefiles, and source-control systems.
- Strong debugging skills across functional, power, performance, and physical-design related failures.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in CPU design and verification and silicon bring-up.
- Experience debugging silicon issues and developing tester bring-up vectors.
- Knowledge of power management and physical design concepts.
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Science, Engineering, or a related technical field; coursework in computer architecture is expected. Preferred: Master's or PhD in CS/EE. Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
