CPU STA CAD Engineer (Lead / Staff / Senior Staff)

Role Summary

As a CPU STA CAD Engineer you will build and support static timing analysis (STA) tools and flows to ensure custom CPUs meet power, performance, and area targets. The role partners with CPU physical design teams worldwide and with EDA vendors to deliver timing closure and methodology improvements.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Role requires 5–15 years of relevant industry experience; specific minimum years vary by degree (see Education Requirements).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include developing and supporting STA flows, resolving timing issues, and improving methodology.

  • Develop, maintain, and debug STA and timing-closure (ECO) flows and tools.
  • Architect and recommend methodology improvements to optimize power, performance, and area.
  • Provide methodology guidance and tools/flow support to worldwide CPU physical design teams.
  • Work with EDA vendors to define tool roadmaps and resolve tool issues.
  • Resolve project-specific timing issues and support timing signoff and ECO implementation.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience for successful performance in this role.

  • 5–15 years of relevant industry experience in STA/CAD for CPU or complex digital designs.
  • Strong hands-on experience with STA, timing closure, and ECO flows.
  • Proven ability to maintain, support, and debug EDA tool flows and resolve tool-related issues.
  • Experience collaborating with CPU physical design teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience working with EDA vendors on tool integration and roadmap definition.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or a related field plus 6+ years of relevant hardware engineering experience; OR Master's degree in these fields plus 5+ years; OR PhD in these fields plus 4+ years of relevant hardware engineering experience.
