CPU-SoC Structural Design Engineer
Intel CorporationJob Title
CPU-SoC Structural Design Engineer
Role Summary
Implement and verify structural physical designs for client CPU System-on-Chip (SoC) products. Work includes synthesis, floor planning, power-grid and clock tree design, place-and-route, timing analysis, and design verification.
Join the Silicon and Platform Engineering Group (SPE) to help deliver advanced SoC designs and production-ready physical implementation flows.
Experience Level
Entry-level. Typical candidates have 0β1 years of hands-on physical design experience; Master's degree holders with no prior professional experience are also acceptable.
Responsibilities
The role focuses on physical implementation, verification, and cross-functional collaboration to achieve timing, power, and manufacturability targets.
- Implement structural physical designs: synthesis, floor planning, power-grid and clock tree design.
- Execute place-and-route (PnR), static timing analysis (STA), timing budgeting, and timing closure.
- Perform RC extraction, DFM analysis, and DRC clean-up.
- Verify designs using functional equivalency, timing/performance verification, signal integrity/noise analysis, layout rules verification, and reliability checks.
- Optimize power usage and ensure design convergence toward target metrics.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define structural design methodologies and improve design flows.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and tools experience for immediate contribution.
- Hands-on experience with industrial EDA tools for synthesis, place-and-route, and timing analysis.
- Practical knowledge of physical design processes: DFM, STA, RC extraction, DRC clean-up, and power-grid optimization.
- Experience obtained via internships, academic projects, coursework, or 0β1 years in a physical design role.
- Ability to analyze and debug timing, signal integrity, and power-related issues.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills for cross-functional collaboration.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with advanced semiconductor process technologies.
- Strong analytical problem-solving and optimization skills.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electronic, Electrical, or Computer Engineering (or equivalent) with 0β1 years of relevant hands-on physical design experience; OR Master's degree in Electronic, Electrical, or Computer Engineering (or equivalent) with no prior professional experience. Equivalent practical experience (internships, academic projects, or coursework) is acceptable.
